SAN FRANCISCO – The No. 21-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team secured its third straight conference series of the season as the Otters split their Sunday doubleheader with San Francisco State on Sunday. CSUMB dropped the opener in extra innings, 3-2, then rallied to take the nightcap, 15-1.
GAME 1 | SFSU 3 – CSUMB 2 (11 inn.)
The two teams exchanged runs in the ninth inning to push the game into extra innings as the Gators proved to be victorious in the 11
th, 3-2.
JJ Engman collected three of the Otters' six hits as he batted 3-for-5 with a run, stole a base and drove in a run to continue his hot play.
Mitchell Torres posted a solid start, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out two in six innings.
GAME 2 | CSUMB 15 – SFSU 1
The Otters bounced back in the nightcap to secure the series victory, taking down the Gators, 15-1, in seven innings. CSUMB belted three home runs and banged out 14 hits in the winning effort.
Jaden Sheppard drove in five runs on two hits, including a home run, while
Brady Miguel batted 2-for-3, scoring three times and driving in four.
Five different Otters tallied multi-hit games as Engman continued his torrid pace at the plate with a 3-for-4 ballgame, scoring twice and plating a pair.
Ryan Platero (3-0) earned the victory, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out eight in six innings.
Matt Campo pitched a hitless inning of relief.
CSUMB returns home to host Stanislaus State. First pitch of the series opener is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
