Otters Score Eight but Fall on the Road at Santa Clara

CSUMB drops second straight game in as many days to a DI program

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped its second straight decision in as many days to a Division I program, falling on the road at Santa Clara, 14-8, Thursday afternoon at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
Kaya Eaton, Annika Harper and Autumn Day tallied two goals apiece. Allyson Ainsworth, Day and Eaton all recorded three points as Ainsworth paced the Otters with two assists.

In the cage for CSUMB, Grace Mensing recorded 15 saves, one steal and fired off two shots. The Otters recorded 26 shots and drew a game-high nine exclusions as Day led all players with four.

After Santa Clara raced out to a 4-1 first quarter lead, CSUMB held strong and held SCU scoreless, while finding the back of the net twice to head into the intermission down one at 4-3.

The Otters scored another pair in the third quarter and then three in the final frame, but was outscored, 10-5, in the second half.

CSUMB will return to WWPA play on Saturday when they face Cal State East Bay on Saturday, March 30. First sprint is scheduled for 1 p.m.
