CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team finished 1-3 at the Claremont Convergence Tournament. The Otters secured their third win of the season by taking down Whittier College. 8-4.
GAME 1 | California Lutheran 9 – CSUMB 8
The Otters were edged in the tournament opener to California Lutheran, 9-8. CSUMB rallied late and pulled within one late in the fourth quarter but could not tally the equalizer.
Six different Otters scored in the contest as
Stella Martin led the team with three goals.
Allyson Ainsworth tallied four points on a goal and three assists, while
Shea Tully added a goal and two assists.
GAME 2 | CSUMB 8 – Whittier College 4
The Otters clamped down defensively and used three fourth quarter goals to pull away from Whittier College, 8-4.
Kaya Eaton,
Autumn Day and
Becca Bijold scored a pair of goals each as
Stella Martin handed out two assists.
GAME 3 | Siena College 18 – CSUMB 7
Siena bookended the game by scoring six goals in the first and another six in the fourth to take down the Otters, 18-7.
Annika Harper scored twice as she was one of five Otters to find the back of the net.
GAME 4 | Claremont Mudd-Scripps 21 – CSUMB 8
The Otters capped off the tournament by falling to host Claremont, 21-8. An eight-goal second quarter and a six-goal fourth proved to be the difference in the game.
Autumn Day and
Paige Labayog scored two goals each as six different Otters scored.
The Otters will continue play on the road as they will face Fresno Pacific on March 9 and then take on UC Merced on March 10.
