SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team splits its two contests on the weekend. The Otters raced past UC Merced, 21-1, and dropped its WWPA opener to Fresno Pacific, 12-5.
GAME 1 | FPU 12 – CSUMB 5
The Otters dropped their first conference contest of the season, falling to host Fresno Pacific, 12-5, at the Sunnyside Aquatics Center.
Grace Mensing made her return in the cage and made 11 saves.
Allyson Ainsworth tallied three goals and
Stella Martin was credited with all five assists.
Autumn Day and
Becca Bijold also found the back of the net for the Otters.
GAME 2 | CSUMB 21 – UCM 1
The Otters dominated every facet of the matchup on Sunday as they only surrendered the lone goal and outshot Merced, 35-22.
CSUMB allowed the goal a little under two minutes into the game and that was it for the Bobcats. Mensing made seven saves and scored a goal.
Abby Delport and
Shea Tully scored four goals apiece as
Annika Harper and
Paige Labayog tallied a pair each.
Martin continued to be in the giving spirit as she assisted on seven goals and also scored one for eight points on the day. Ainsworth had seven points on three goals and four assists.
The Otters will host Cal State East Bay on Saturday, March 16. The first sprint is scheduled for 1 p.m.
