Harper Records Hat Trick In Loss To East Bay

Annika Harper posts sixth multi-goal game in 12-8 setback

SEASIDE, Calif. — A strong second half wasn't enough to lead Cal State Monterey Bay to victory as visiting Cal State East Bay rode a fast start to a 12–8 Western Water Polo Association win Saturday afternoon in the Otter Tank.

The match featured 28 total ejections, including 18 by East Bay, which saw three Pioneers earn three ejections apiece. The Otter offense took advantage with five 6-on-5 goals and one 5–meter score.
East Bay led 3–1 after one period and 7–3 at the half. But the Otters surged back late, scoring four of the match's final five goals before running out of time.

Freshman Annika Harper (San Diego/Clairemont HS led the Otter offense with her first collegiate hat trick and her sixth multi-goal game of the season. Sophomore Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS) added a goal and matched her career high with three assists.

"We had a great attacking game today," said CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit. Allyson Ainsworth pushed the counters all four quarters and Annika put away some big goals for us. I'm really proud of how we played and continued to push each possession."

CSUMB's other goal scorers Saturday included Becca Bijold, Paige Labayog, Ximena Pichon and Katie Vaupel. Grace Mensing made 13 saves in the cage.

The Otters return to action next Saturday when WWPA foe Biola University visits the Otter Tank. First sprint is scheduled for 1 p.m.
