SEASIDE, Calif. – For the first time in program history, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team scored 10 or more runs in a four-game series sweep, as the 11-9 victory over Stanislaus State sealed it on Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex.
CSUMB improves to 17-7 overall and 13-3 in CCAA play. The Otters have now scored 10-or-more runs in five straight games and made history by accomplishing the feat in a four-game set. The last time CSUMB had scored over 10 runs in four consecutive contests was at the beginning of the 2018 season.
KW Quilici and
Nico Hartojo capped off impressive play in the series with three hits. Quilici drove in three runs, while Hartojo recorded two RBI.
Chase Lindemann and Jared Sheppard banged out two hits as Sheppard tallied a solo home run.
Hartojo put together his best series of the season as he batted .714 (10-for-14) with six runs, three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI.
The two teams traded runs early in the game until Stanislaus State took a 5-3 lead. That advantage didn't last long as CSUMB was opportunistic in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on multiple Warrior miscues.
The Otters loaded the bases on three straight hit-by-pitches and then after an error, was able to take the 9-5 lead. Quilici supplied the big hit in the frame, drilling a two-run triple off the wall in center.
Hartojo closed out his stellar series by driving in two runs that proved to be the difference in the seventh inning.
CSUMB will hit the road for a key CCAA series as they head to Cal State San Marcos for a four-game set. The series opener is scheduled for Friday, March 22, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
