SAN MARCOS – The No. 19 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split its doubleheader against Cal State San Marcos on Friday. The Cougars rallied to win game one, 4-3, but the Otters battled back to take the nightcap, 7-2.
After the day, CSUMB moves to 18-8 overall and 14-4 in CCAA play.
GAME 1 | CSUSM 4 – CSUMB 3
Cal State San Marcos used a ninth inning walk-off home run to earn a 4-3 win in the series opener and snap CSUMB's five-game winning streak.
Cole Murchison was the lone Otter to record a multi-hit game as he batted 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Kyle Barileau batted 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Nate Rohlicek allowed one run on six hits and struck out four.
Christian McInerney (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
The Otters scored all three of their runs in the second inning. Barileau provided the big hit as he ripped a two-run single up the middle.
Chase Lindemann started the scoring with an RBI single to right.
GAME 2 | CSUMB 7 – CSUSM 2
The Otters scored five runs in the first three innings to bounce back and even the series with a 7-2 victory in the nightcap on Friday.
KW Quilici batted 2-for-4 with a home run, while four other Otter hitters collected multi-hit games.
JJ Engman knocked in two runs and
Jaden Sheppard scored three times and added two hits.
Chase Lindemann and
Sergio Solis also banged out two hits apiece.
Daniel Flores allowed two hits in three innings.
Mitchell Torres struck out eight in six innings of relief to earn the win.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11 a.m.
