Offield Second, Tong 10th At Tim Tierney Shootout

Otters finish fifth as a team with final round 299

February 27, 2024

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Senior Zoe Offield (Stockton/Tokay HS) carded a 1–under 71 for the second consecutive round to help Cal State Monterey Bay earn a fifth place finish at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout Tuesday at Corica Park South.

Offield finished just behind Cal State L.A.'s Morgan Sjoerdsma, who maintained her 18–hole lead to earn medalist honors. It marked Offield's first Top 10 finish of the season and the third Top 5 finish of her career.
Junior Cathy Tong (Newport Harbor HS) went 2–over Tuesday to climb into 10th place for her third Top 10 finish in five team outings this season.

Led by that duo, the Otters shot 299 Tuesday, tied for the 15th–lowest round on a par 72 layout in program history. Combined with Monday's opening round 300, it marked just the third time in program history that the team shot 300 or better twice in a tournament.

Despite CSUMB's strong play, host Cal State East Bay rallied to shoot a tournament low round of 292 Tuesday to take first place at plus-16, five strokes better than the Otters.

In addition to Offield and Tong, Mia Golovich (Murrieta Mesa HS) and Tilda Kvarnrud each shot 76 Tuesday to post CSUMB's other scoring rounds.

"We played well at times today, but overall fell a little short of where we wanted to finish," said CSUMB Head Coach Jim Ragan. "Zoe had a great tournament and battled all day being paired with the eventual winner. It feels good to compete again after a long lay off. We are all looking forward to the upcoming tournaments."

The Otters will take next week off before returning to action at the Fujikura Invitational Mar. 11–12 at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
