ROHNERT PARK – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team opened CCAA play with a doubleheader sweep against Sonoma State on Saturday at Seawolf Stadium. The Otters claimed game one by the score of 13-8 and then ran away with the nightcap, 15-4.

Jaden Sheppard recorded six hits on the day and drove in five runs, while
KW Quilici also banged out six hits and scored seven times.
The Otters collected 39 hits as seven players tallied three or more in one of the contests on Saturday.
GAME 1 | CSUMB 13 – SSU 8
The Otters scored four runs in the final two frames to pull out the victory in game one of the conference season, 13-8.
Cole Murchison and
Jaden Sheppard had four-hit games as Sheppard drove in three.
KW Quilici and
Dominic Felice also recorded three RBI apiece. Quilici and Felice did most of their damage with the longball.
CSUMB used a five-run third inning and a four-run fifth inning to secure the victory. The Otter bullpen allowed one unearned run in five innings of relief.
GAME 2 | CSUMB 15 – SSU 4
Kyle Barileau,
Sergio Solis and Quilici each tallied three hits as the Otters amassed 20 in game two to run away with a 15-4 victory.
Brady Miguel and Sheppard went deep in the nightcap as Sheppard added a pair of hits to complete an impressive day at the plate.
Nico Hartojo batted 2-for-5 with three RBI as Solis also drove in three.
Nate Rohlicek earned the win (2-1) on the strength of nine strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. The righthander allowed four runs on five hits as the CSUMB bullpen once again came in clutch, throwing 3 2/3 of scoreless relief.
The two teams will meet for another doubleheader tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m.
