ROHNERT PARK – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team claimed the series victory over Sonoma State with a doubleheader split on Sunday. After earning a pair of wins on Saturday, the Otters secured the conference opening tilt by winning game one, 4-2. The host Seawolves salvaged a win in the nightcap with a 5-4 decision.
CSUMB has now won its CCAA opening series for the third straight season. The Otters outscored the Seawolves, 36-19, in the four games this weekend.
The Otters hit .372 in the series as
Brady Miguel,
KW Quilici and
Jaden Sheppard all hit .500. Miguel hit two home runs and drove in four, while Sheppard and
Nico Hartojo drove in six each.

The Otters sealed the series victory by taking down the Seawolves, 4-2.
Mitchell Torres (2-0) allowed just two hits and no runs to earn the win in his five-inning start.
Brady Miguel continued his hot play over the weekend with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate. The reigning CCAA MVP smashed a solo shot and scored twice.
JJ Engman and
Kyle Barileau had two hits apiece.
CSUMB raced out to a 4-0 lead by plating a pair of runs in the second and then added one in third and another in the fifth.
None of the Sonoma State runs were earned as the Otter bullpen allowed just two hits in four innings of relief.
Vincent Cicolello was credited with the save.
GAME 2 | SSU 5 – CSUMB 4
The series finale came down to the final frame as Sonoma State was finally able to get to the CSUMB bullpen to push in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Nico Hartojo was tagged with the loss after a solid 4 1/3 innings of relief. The righthander struck out four and allowed four hits.
KW Qulici and
Jacob Dressler recorded a pair of hits as four different Otters drove in runs.
CSUMB will return home to face Cal Pomona in a four-game CCAA series. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
