SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team got out of the gate hot but gave up a big second half to eventually fall to Chico State, 75-60, Thursday evening in the Kelp Bed.
The Otters raced out to a 20-15 first quarter lead and went into the half down one at 34-33. The Wildcats then used 41 second half points to pull away with the win. Chico shot over 50-percent in both the final quarters, while CSUMB shot 54-percent in the opening frame.
Sarah Shaw paced the Otters in points and rebounds as she scored 18 on 8-of-14 shooting and pulled down seven boards.
Ciarah Michalik chipped in 10 points and handed out a game-high six assists.
SAMIYA RETURNS… Samiya Terry made her return to the Kelp Bed after being off the court since an injury against Lincoln on Dec. 17. She played seven minutes on Thursday and was credited with a rebound.
SHAW KEEPS CLIMBING: With her 18 points on Thursday,
Sarah Shaw is now 14
th all-time on the scoring list with 531 points. She surpassed Alma Lopez (517) and Michele Hale (523) on the evening. Next on the list is Julie Heurung, with her 533 career points.
