SAN DIEGO – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team hit the road to face a pair of nationally ranked opponents on Saturday. In the opening game of the day the Otters fell to No. 12 Long Beach State, 19-7, and then dropped the backend of their doubleheader to host No. 22 San Diego State, 18-3.
GAME 1 | No. 12 LBSU 19 – CSUMB 7
The Otters opened play on Saturday against the No. 12 team in the country and put up seven goals on The Beach. CSUMB also drew 12 exclusions to the five from LBSU.
CSUMB was efficient on their 15 shots as
Kaya Eaton scored three goals on four shots to pace the Otters.
Shea Tully,
Autumn Day,
Annika Harper and
Paige Labayog also found the back of the net in the contest.
Allyson Ainsworth and
Brenna Kenney handed out a pair of assists, while Ainsworth added a game-high five drawn exclusions.
GAME 2 | No. 22 SDSU 18 – CSUMB 3
The host Aztecs defended their home pool as the Otters succumbed to an 18-3 defeat in the final game of the day.
Autumn Day scored two of the three goals for CSUMB as she fired off five shots.
Kaya Eaton capped off her day with another goal and
Grace Mensing was credited with 12 saves. She finished the two games with 24 stops.
The Otters will continue play at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara. Their next game will be against Concordia on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
