SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team raced out to an early lead but faltered in the second half to drop a conference contest to Stanislaus State, 73-59, Saturday afternoon at the Kelp Bed.
CSUMB picked up the pace and scored 23 points in the first quarter and went into the half with a 38-32 advantage but Stanislaus outscored the Otters, 41-21, in the second half to secure the victory.
Senior guard
Ella Doherty posted another double-double, scoring 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Junior forward
Jayden McNeal added 11 points and three rebounds.
A'ajah Slocum put up nine points, six rebounds and handed out eight assists.
STRONG FINISH TO 2024 FOR DOHERTY… Senior guard transfer
Ella Doherty has been on a tear to cap off the 2024 portion of the schedule. In the last three games, the Scotland native has recorded 76 points for a 25.3 average over that span. The CCAA scoring leader is currently averaging 18.3 ppg in her senior season with the Otters.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT…The Otters will remain at the Kelp Bed for CCAA play when they welcome Chico State and Cal Poly Humboldt. The Otters will open the new year on Thursday, Jan. 2, with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. The Otters will face the Lumberjacks on Saturday, Jan. 4.
