Coyotes Take Tight Three–Setter From Otters

Jackie Wahl puts down 15 kills; Mia Dilley puts up 20 digs

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay played perennial national title contender Cal State San Bernardino tough, but the Coyotes won the big points needed to earn a 26–24, 25–19, 25–22 decision Friday evening in The Kelp Bed.

Senior Jackie Wahl (Palm Desert HS) continued the strong home stretch of her collegiate career, finishing with a team-leading 15 kills. Junior libero Mia Dilley (Clovis East HS/Fresno CC) just missed her career high with a match-leading 20 digs. Senior Mikayla Nolte (Long Beach Wilson HS) led the net defense with three blocks.

The Otters led for most of the first set before a late rally got San Bernardino back into it. CSUMB had a chance to serve out the set at 24–23, but a pair of kills sandwiched a block and allowed the Coyotes to take the early lead.

An 8–0 run start set two gave San Bernardino control, but the Otters rallied back to within 16–14 and 22–19 before the Coyotes again scored the final three points to close it.

The third set featured four early lead changes and was tied 20–20 before the Coyotes finally found a way to quell the Otter comeback attempt.
