SAN RAFAEL – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team earned its first victory of the season by taking down Fresno Pacific, 63-54, Saturday evening to cap off the CCAA/PacWest Challenge at the Conlan Center.
Senior transfer
Ella Doherty led the charge for CSUMB, tallying her first double-double of the young season with 20 points with 10 rebounds.
Jayden McNeal also scored in double-digits, scoring 10 points and grabbing three rebounds, while
Sha'nece Garrett added seven points and five rebounds.
One of the major factors in the game was CSUMB's ability to control the paint, outscoring Fresno Pacific 26-16 in that category. The Otters sealed the contest by shooting 58.3% in the fourth and won every quarter but the second.
For the entire game, the Otters shot 46-percent (25-for-55) and 38-percent (6-for-16) from three. CSUMB tallied 10 points off the bench and raced out to an 18-10 lead in the first, a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The Otters return to the hardwood on Saturday, Nov. 30, to open CCAA play on the road at Stanislaus State. The two teams will tip-off at 1 p.m.
