Otters Fall At Chico In Penultimate Match

Wahl leads offense with 11 kils

CHICO, Calif. — Eleven kills from senior Jackie Wahl (Palm Desert HS) weren't enough to stop host Chico State from earning a 25–16, 25–18, 25–21 win Friday night in Acker Gym.

Wahl reached double figures for the 16th time in her last 18 matches. Sophomore middle Malia Thorne (Newport Harbor HS) added seven kills, but the Wildcats shut down the rest of the CSUMB offense as no other Otter registered more than four kills.

Chico raced to a 9–0 lead to start the match to take early control. After the wildcats jumped to a 9–2 lead to start the second set, the Otters found their footing and powered back to pull ahead, 16–14. Tied at 18–18, Chico regained its advantage and scored the final seven points to take a commanding 2–0 lead.

CSUMB kept things tight in the third set until the Wildcats broke a 16–16 tie with a 4–0 spurt that gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

CSUMB closes it's 2024 campaign Saturday with a rare matinée at Stanislaus State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
