Otters Serve Up Win At Dominguez Hills

Team serves 11 aces in 4-set win over Toros

CARSON, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay enjoyed its best night from the line this season to serve up a 25–21, 23–25,25–16, 25–21 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night in the Torodome.

The Otters served 11 aces, their most in a 4-set match since Oct. 7 of last season. Senior Kennedy Adams (Temecula HS) and freshman Ruby Ennis (Lakeside/El Capitan HS) led the charge with three aces apiece.

As has been the case all season, Jackie Wahl (Palm Desert HS) paced the attack with 15 kills. Adams reached double figures for the third time in four matches with 12 kills. Malia Peterson (Redondo Union HS) made it four double-figure matches in her last five with 10 kills.

The Otters raced to an 8–2 lead to open the match and never trailed while taking the first set. The appeared poised to go up by two sets, leading 22–20 in the second, before Dominguez Hills rallied by scoring five of the final six points to even the match.

The Otters grabbed an early lead and never looked back to take the third set. A 6–1 run midway through the fourth set eventually built their lead to as many as nine points en route to sealing the victory.
 

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Malia Peterson served CSUMB's 10th ace of the match to give the Otters a 22–13 lead in the fourth.

THEY'RE ACES… The Otters served 11 aces in Friday's win at Cal State Dominguez Hills, their most in a 4-set match this season and 11th-most in a 4-set match all time.

WAHL UP TO 15TH IN KILLS… With 15 kills in Friday's win at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Jackie Wahl moved up to 15th on the Otter career kills list with 515. She needs 51 to catch Kerri Sudarsana for 14th.

NOLTE UP TO FIFTH IN SOLOS… Mikayla Nolte picked up her 43rd career block solo to take sole possession of fifth on the Otter career list. She needs four more to pass Victoria Clardy for the No. 4 spot.

NOLTE TIES HELFRICH FOR SEVENTH IN TOTAL BLOCKS… With five blocks (1 solo, 4 assists) in Friday's win at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Mikayla Nolte tied Mollin Helfrich for No. 7 on the career blocks list with 189. She needs 15 to pass Melanie Lashbrook for sixth place.
