ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team opened its CCAA road trip on the short end of a highly contested matchup, 64-63, Thursday evening at Lumberjack Arena.
Three Otters tallied double-digits in points as
Ciarah Michalik led all scorers with 22 points, adding six rebounds and three assists.
Sarah Shaw posted another double-double, recording 11 points and 12 boards, while
Amelia Smith also poured in 11 and dished out three assists.
CSUMB sported more assists than turnovers on the evening and headed into the halftime intermission with a 36-33 advantage. The Otters had possession to close out the contest but could not convert the game-winner.
SHAW MOVES INTO THE TOP-25… Sarah Shaw added 11 more points on Thursday to move her career total to 450. She is now 25
th all-time, eclipsing Jordan Price (447). She is now 10 points away from 24
th on the list, trailing Michelle Santizo.
20-20 VISION… Ciarah Michalik recorded her fourth 20-point game (22) of the season in Thursday's 64-63 road defeat. Michalik played a team-high 36 minutes as she shot 4-of-8 from three and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
DOUBLE TROUBLE… Sarah Shaw poured in 11 points on Thursday. The junior has now posted double-digits in points in six consecutive games and has recorded 10 or more points eight times this season.
7–11… Sarah Shaw has pulled down seven or more rebounds in nine contests this season, including 10 or more on six occasions. She boasts a season-high of 14 rebounds against San Francisco State (11/30/23). Paired with her 9.0 boards per game, Shaw is scoring at an 11.2 clip.
