Otters Celebrate Senior Day with 14 Run Onslaught vs San Marcos

Nico Hartojo drives in three as regular season comes to a close with 14-5 victory

SEASIDE, CALIF. –
The Otters sent off their seniors with a win in their final regular season home game of the year, downing San Marcos 14-5 to earn the series split.

Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC) blasted a first inning solo shot to get the momentum rolling for the Otters, who would open up the game with 12 unanswered runs through the first five innings. 12 different Otters reached base, eight logged hits and five notched multi-hit ball games in the 14-run, 18-hit performance.

Hartojo and Cole Murchison (Toronto, Ont./West Valley College) each tallied four hits in the contest, with Hartojo driving in three and Murchison driving in two. Chase Lindemann (Santa Clarita/Hartnell College) and Dominic Felice (Hollister/MPC) each also logged two RBI in this one, as this quartet accounted for 12 hits and nine runs driven in to kickstart the offense.

Mitchell Torres (Santa Clarita/Mesa CC) shook off last weekend's tough start to the tune of five shutout innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out two. Seniors Nick Bouillerce (Livermore/MPC), Sonny Brandwood (Dublin/Laney College), Christian McInerney (Benicia/Sacrament CC) and Chris Tonna (Fremont/Chabot College) each tossed an inning to finish out the senior day victory.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Kyle Barileau laced an RBI single to right field, pushing the Otter lead to 12-0 in the fifth.

SEEING DOUBLE… Spots three and four in the Otter lineup, occupied by Nico Hartojo and Cole Murchison each logged four hits against the Cougars today. It was Hartojo's fourth four hit ball-game of the season, while it was Murchison's first as an Otter.

TERRIFIC TORRES… With the stellar offense behind him, starter Mitchell Torres did exactly what he needed to do through the first five innings of this one. Torres allowed just one hit and no walks over five innings of scoreless ball. He ran into a bit of trouble in the fifth, loading the bases due to an error and a pair of hit batters, but was able to induce a double play to get out of it unscathed.

ON BASE? NO PROBLEM… The Otters turned a season-high three double plays in this one, eliminating baserunners with their stellar defense. The Otters turned two in the third, fourth and fifth innings, keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard through five.

SENIOR SALUTE… As today was the final home regular season contest, the Otters honored seniors Flynn Morrison, Zac Whittaker, Colby Harrison, Kyle Guerra, Ryan Fleming, Chris Tonna, Nick Bouillerce, Sonny Brandwood, and Christian McInerney. Bouillerce, Brandwood, McInerney and Tonna were all called upon to toss an inning in this one. Guerra broke out of a small slump, with a pair of hits including a double off the wall in center field. Harrison was utilized earlier this senior weekend, tossing four solid innings against the Cougars on Thursday.

THE FINAL WORD... "I couldn't be more proud of this team, our coaches, our athletic department, and our whole program in general. Winning back to back and 3 of the last 4 regular season championships is quite the accomplishment and something all associated with MB Baseball should be proud of. We are excited about getting back to the postseason and we look forward to the challenge of playing some great teams from the west region." -- Head Coach Walt White

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… Having secured the one seed in the CCAA Tournament, the Otters will next be in action on Thursday May 10 at 9:30 AM, as they will take on the lowest remaining seed in the tournament to kick off double elimination play at the Otter Sports Complex.
