Otters Duke It Out with Pioneers On Senior Day, Fall 8-4

Cecile Judy, Hailey Alexander and Amanda Bennett honored in final home match


SEASIDE, CALIF. – Cal State Monterey Bay Water Polo played their final home game of the season, falling to the Cal State East Bay Pioneers 8-4 Friday at the Otter Tank.

After a tightly contested first quarter saw the score tied at one, East Bay built up a two goal lead at the halftime break. The Otters cut the deficit to just one goal at 5-4 heading into the fourth, but were held scoreless in the final frame, falling 8-4. 

Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS) served as the focal point of the Otter attack, tallying a goal and an assist on five shots. Megan Taylor (San Juan Capistrano/Capo Valley HS) put together another double-digit save performance, stopping 10 Pioneer shots. 

 

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… East Bay scored their third unanswered goal of the fourth quarter, going ahead 8-4 with 2:28 remaining. 

AINSWORTH DOES IT AGAIN… Allyson Ainsworth continued her point streak with a goal and an assist today. Ainsworth has now recorded a goal or assist in each of the last eight contests. 

RACKING UP THE SAVES… Megan Taylor picked up her 14th double-digit save contest on the year, stopping 10 shots today. Taylor continues to climb the all-time saves list, now with 481, within 100 of the top three. 

THANK YOU SENIORS… Seniors Cecile Judy, Hailey Alexander, and Amanda Bennett all played in their final games in the Otter Tank. Judy fired off two shots, Alexander found the back of the net on three shots, while Bennett fired off three shots and recorded a field block. 

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will hit the road for the final time in the regular season, as they get set to take on Biola. First sprint is set for 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, Apr. 14 in La Mirada.
