Otters Respond with Doubleheader Sweep of Golden Eagles

Brady Miguel leads CSUMB to pair of victories over Cal State LA 8-6, 9-6

LOS ANGELES –
The Otters regained momentum in their final road series of the regular season, taking both ends of their doubleheader against Cal State LA, 8-6 and 9-6 Saturday at Reeder Field.

Brady Miguel (Hollister/San Benito HS) blasted a first inning home run in game one of the doubleheader to seize momentum for the Otters early, and they would not look back for the remaining 16 innings.

Miguel tallied a double and a home run to lead the Otters on the day. Chase Lindemann (Santa Clarita/Hartnell College) and Kyle Guerra (San Leandro HS) also left the yard.

Aidan Lee (Live Oak/USF) picked up his first win as an Otter in game one, while Nate Rohlicek (Gilbert, Ariz./UNR) moved to 5-0 on the season after earning the win in game two.

GAME ONE WAS OVER WHEN… Chris Tonna retired Andrew Tovar, who represented the go-ahead run, to end the eighth inning.

GAME TWO WAS OVER WHEN… Christian McInerney retired Kai Penuelas with the tying run in the on-deck circle to end the game.

EXTRA BASES FOR MIGUEL… Brady Miguel led the Otters with three hits over the doubleheader, including a double and a home run. Miguel has now tallied 22 extra base hits on the season, good for second most on the squad. His 33 career doubles as an Otter ranks fourth all-time in program history.

C-MAC TO THE RESCUE… Christian McInerney picked up his first collegiate save today, slamming the door shut against the Golden Eagles in game two of the doubleheader. McInerney entered with the tying run in the on-deck circle and one away in the bottom of the seventh, and promptly induced weak contact to retire the final two batters of the contest. In 18 relief appearances, this marks McInerney's first career save as an Otter.

THAT'S 30!... With today's pair of wins, the Otters have hit the 30 win mark for the fourth consecutive season (excluding 2020's shortened season due to COVID). It is the Otters seventh 30+ win season in program history, all of which have been under the direction of Head Coach Walt White.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will look for the series win over the Golden Eagles in game four tomorrow. First pitch is set for noon at Reeder Field.
