Otters Active Offense Denied by FPU’s Stifling Defense

CSUMB fires off 26 shots but is limited to three goals in 9-3 loss to Sunbirds.

FRESNO, CALIF. —
Monterey Bay Water Polo matched Fresno Pacific shot for shot, but were unable to find the back of the net at the same frequency as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds, falling 9-3 Saturday Afternoon at the Sunnyside Aquatics Center.

The Otters trailed by just two goals at the half, but were limited to just one score in the second half, while conceding five.

Kaya Eaton (San Diego/Helix HS) led all Otters with two goals, while Shelby Fortune (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS) scored a goal and an assist. That duo combined for 15 of Monterey Bay's 26 shots.

Megan Taylor (San Juan Capistrano/Capo Valley HS) played the entire match in goal, coming up with eight saves.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Fresno Pacific scored a power play goal to push ahead by six with 2:45 remaining.

FRESHMAN PHENOM… Freshman Kaya Eaton scored twice for the Otters today, but is no stranger to goal scoring. She has scored five goals in the last three games, and ranks second on the team with 17 goals on the season.

20 HELPERS FOR AINSWORTH… Allyson Ainsworth assisted on Kaya Eaton's second goal of the match, moving her to 20 assists for the season and 30 for her career. She is one of just 20 Otters to record at least 30 assists in her career.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will return home to take on Cal State East Bay on April 7. First sprint is set for 1:00 P.M. at the Otter Tank. As it will be the final home contest of the season, the Otters will honor their seniors prior to the first sprint.
