Otters Outlast the Rain to Sweep Doubleheader with SF State

CSUMB downs Gators 9-6, 7-6 in pair of rain-soaked thrillers

SEASIDE, CALIF. –
The Otters kept momentum rolling, taking both ends of a doubleheader against San Francisco State to secure a series W on Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex.

Monterey Bay jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in game one today, headlined by a three run blast by Drew Williams (Hollister/Cabrillo College). The Gators responded, out scoring the Otters 6-2 in the latter half of the contest, but Chris Tonna (Fremont/Chabot College) came on to shut S.F. State down in the final 2.1 innings, picking up his first save of the season.

Game two, which was delayed to a 4:20 PM start time due to inclement weather, was a back and forth slugfest between these two CCAA rivals. The Otters again jumped out to an early lead, ahead 4-1, due in big part to Brady Miguel's (Hollister/San Benito HS) two-run homer, but the Gators chiseled away at the deficit and found themselves ahead 6-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Cole Murchison (Toronto/West Valley College) and Sergio Solis (Ceres/Central Valley HS) both found their way on base, with Murchison's pinch runner Nick Maestas (Pleasanton/Chabot College) scoring the tying run on a wild pitch, and Solis scoring the winning run on an error.

GAME ONE WAS OVER WHEN… Chris Tonna induced the game ending flyout to center field with the go ahead run at the plate.

GAME TWO WAS OVER WHEN… Sergio Solis scored the winning run on a San Francisco State error.

LINDY STAYS HOT… Chase Lindemann continued to be an on-base machine for the Otters in games two and three of this series. Chase has reached base in 14 of 16 plate appearances against the Gators to open up the series, and today scored three times and drove in a run.

A SERG IN THE LINEUP… Catcher Sergio Solis entered this series with just one hit on the season, but he proved to be the offensive fire starter for the Otters in game three of the series. Sergio went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, including the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh. This was Sergio's first collegiate multi-hit game.

THREE IN A ROW… The Otters have now matched their season long winning streak with three consecutive wins over S.F. State. The Otters have also pulled back to .500 at home, after opening the season 0-3 at the Otter Sports Complex.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters and Gators will cap their four-game set with a contest scheduled for a noon first pitch tomorrow.
