Otter Water Polo Battles in a Pair of Tough Contests to Open Aggie Invitational

Hailey Alexander tallies two goals and three assists as Otters fall to Pacific 17-1 and East Bay 12-6

DAVIS, CALIF. –
The Otters opened up the 2023 Aggie Invitational with a pair of tough matchups, falling 17-1 to 11th ranked Pacific and 13-5 to East Bay at the Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday. 

Game one saw the 11th ranked Tigers jump out to an early 8-0 lead. Zoe Reid (Pleasanton/Foothill HS) broke through for the Otters midway through the second quarter, finding the back of the net on an assist from Hailey Alexander (Palos Verdes HS). In total, the Otters fired off 13 shots, but couldn't force another one by the Pacific goalkeeper. 

Megan Taylor (San Juan Capistrano/Capo Valley HS) and Grace Mensing (Cameron Park/Ponderosa HS) split time in goal in game one, and combined for 14 saves. 

The Otters battled in game two against preseason WWPA favorites Cal State East Bay, keeping the game within reach throughout most of the contest. Hailey Alexander was outstanding as the Otters offensive leader in the absence of Shelby Fortune (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS), tallying a pair of goals and and a pair of assists. Freshman Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS) had the best game of her young career, with a pair of assists and a pair of steals. 

Taylor played in goal for the entirety of match number two and stopped a career best 16 saves.

Tomorrow will conclude the Aggie Invitational, as the Otters will square off with La Verne at 9:30 AM and San Jose State at 2:10 PM.
