#25 Otters Hang Around Early, Drop Both Against #4 Point Loma

Williams and Hartojo homer, but Otters fall 22-6, 13-3 in doubleheader vs Sea Lions

SEASIDE, CALIF. –
Cal State Monterey Bay Baseball kicked off play at the Otter Sports Complex today, falling to the fourth ranked Point Loma Sea Lions in the first two games of a four-game set, 22-6 and 13-3 on Friday.

These two West Region baseball titans were locked in close games early on, but late rallies by Point Loma in both contests charged them to a pair of victories.

Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC) tallied four hits over the two game span, while Hartojo and Drew Williams (Hollister/Cabrillo College) both left the yard.

Starting pitchers Ryan Platero (Hollister/MPC) and Nate Rohlicek (Gilbert, Ariz./UNR) both were solid on the mound, with the former tossing four innings and exiting the game tied at 3-3 and the latter leaving after four innings with a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, the bullpen and offense could not pick either of their starters up anything more than no decisions.

GAME ONE WAS OVER WHEN… Hunter Otjen and Jakob Christian connected on back-to-back home runs in the seventh, bringing the score to 11-4.

GAME TWO WAS OVER WHEN… Jake Entrekin launched a three run home run in the seventh to push the Sea Lions lead to 8-3.

WILLIAMS LOVES OPENERS… Drew Williams has played extremely well in series openers this season. After launching a grand slam in his first Otter AB against Azusa Pacific, Williams connected on a three run blast in game one vs Point Loma. Williams is now tied for the team lead with three home runs, and leads his squad with 10 RBI.

A DIFFICULT OUT… The Sea Lions were unable to retire Nico Hartojo in game two of the doubleheader. Hartojo went 3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, falling just a triple short of the cycle. Hartojo saw his batting average climb from .200 to .500 after his strong performance today.

BOUNCE BACK ROHLICEK… After a less than stellar start to his Otter career, Nate Rohlicek bounced back for a solid start in his second outing in a CSUMB uniform. The junior out of Arizona tossed four full innings, allowing just two runs on six hits, while striking out six batters and walking one. Rohlicek exited the game ahead 3-2 and was in line for the win, had the Otters held the lead. He now leads the Otters with eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will be back in action at home tomorrow for another doubleheader clash with Point Loma. First pitch is set for 11 AM.
