L.A. Hot, Otters Not In 82-62 Loss

Golden Eagles pull away with second-half surge

LOS ANGELES — Host Cal State L.A. was red hot and Cal State Monterey Bay was decidedly not in an 82–62 loss Thursday night in CSULA's University Gym.

By the time the Golden Eagles opened a 27–point lead midway through the second half, they were shooting 52 percent from the floor, 43 percent from 3–point range and 93 percent (13-for-14) from the stripe. CSUMB's numbers, by comparison with 32 percent, 25 percent and 67 percent.

Although the Otters made shots down the stretch, they never got closer than 19 points over the final 10 minutes.

Joey Bilello (Littleton, Colo./ThunderRidge HS) and Jordan Archie (Garden/Bishop Montomery HS) got hot for the Otters in the second half. Bilello scored eight of his team–high 15 points in the second half while Archie scored all of his 12 after intermission.

 

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Using the Bill James safe lead formula, the game was statistically over when Kris Krause made a layup with 6:14 remaining to give L.A. a 74–51 lead.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB… Freshman guard Preston Kilbert became the sixth different Otter to score his first collegiate points this season with a layup in the second half Thursday at Cal State L.A.

SPREADING THE WEALTH… With his 15 points Thursday at Cal State L.A., Joey Bilello became the fifth different Otter to lead the team in scoring through eight games this season.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their 2–game trip to L.A. County when the head to Carson to take on defending CCAA Champions Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday (Dec. 9). Tip-off will be a 3 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action with the Otter women.
