Otters Give Fans Early Gift With Big Win

Michalik scores 20, Shaw posts double-double in win over Lincoln (Calif.)

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team gave its fans an early Christmas present with an 85–65 win over visiting Lincoln University Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.

Twelve different Otters scored as CSUMB built leads as big as 28 points before settling on the 20–point final margin.

Junior guard Ciarah Michalik (Santa Rosa JC/Montgomery HS) led the way with 20 points and a team season–high eight assists. Junior forward Sarah Shaw (Dana Point/JSerra HS) added her second consecutive double–double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Lincoln made an early run to grab a 16–9 lead midway through the first quarter. The Otters found their sea legs at the point and finished the first half on a 39–17 run to take control.

Shaw almost completed her double–double by halftime, recording 12 points and eight boards over the first 20 minutes. Michalik has 13 points and five assists in helping CSUMB earn the 48–33 lead at intermission.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Using the Bill James safe lead formula, the game was statistically over when Ciarah Michalik knocked down a 3-pointer with 8:22 remaining to give the Otters a 75–49 lead.
