Penguins Pull Away From Otters In Second Half

Terry scores 12, Shaw with 12 boards in 77-64 loss

SEASIDE, Calif. — Samiya Terry (Long Beach Wilson HS) scored 12 points and Sarah Shaw (Dana Point/JSerra HS) pulled down 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to stop Dominican University from taking a 77–64 decision from Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.

The Penguins began the second quarter on a 7–1 run to open their first double-digit lead at 25–14. CSUMB stayed close, keeping the deficit between three and 11 points until the fourth quarter, when a Jenna Duley 3-pointer gave the Penguins their biggest lead at 73-50.

Led by Shaw, the Otters built a commanding 48–26 advantage on the boards. But CSUMB shot just 4-of-20 from long range and lost the turnover battle by eight to blunt their rebound superiority.

Shaw added two blocks while Terry, Ciarah Michalik and Sha'nece Garrett each passed three assists.

The Otters jump right back into action by hosting former CalPac Conference rival Pacific Union College Monday (Nov. 20) in their final preconference tuneup. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in The Kelp Bed
