Otters Second, Blanc Fifth At Sonoma Invitational

Madi Blanc leads the way in first action as an Otter

October 03, 2023

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's golf team capped a strong start to its season with a second place finish at the Sonoma Invitational Tuesday at Santa Rosa Country Club.

Led by a final round 73 from junior Madi Blanc (Oakdale HS),  the Otters climbed two places in the final standings to tie host Sonoma State and Pac West Conference rival Hawaii Pacific for second at 595. Cal State San Marcos was nine stroke better than the field Tuesday to earn a 10–stroke victory at 585.

Blanc, playing in her first Otter event after redshirting last season, picked up where she left off after placing third at the California JuCo State Championship Tournament as a sophomore at Modesto College in 2021. She went 74–73–147 (+3) to earn a fifth place finish Tuesday.

Madison Murr of San Marcos took medalist honors at 5–under 139 for the tournament.

Sophomore Mia Golovich (Murrieta Mesa HS/Sonoma State) and junior Cathy Tong (Newport Harbor HS) placed 15th and 17th at 6–over and 7–over respectively. Senior Zoe Offield (Stockton/Tokay HS) and junior Tilda Kvarnrud (Mariestad, Sweden) each finished 8–over to share 20th place.

"The greens played firmer and faster today. The team did a good job adjusting and putting up a good number," says CSUMB Head Coach Jim Ragan. "Early in the season, we wanted to see the course where we will play the CCAA Championship in the spring and play well. We accomplished both! Madi did a great job and played great for us after being injured much of last year. Everyone else played well and I saw a lot of positives for all seven Otters that played for us this week."

The Otters jump right back into action next week when they head down the coast to take part in The Warrior at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara.
