Otters Explode For 93 Points To Down Stanislaus

A trio of career-high scoring performances help the Otters to a 93-63 victory


SEASIDE, CALIF.For the first time since 2013, the CSUMB Women's Basketball team scored 90 points in a contest, downing Stanislaus State 93–63 Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.  

The Otter offense fired on all cylinders, putting together a season-best 42–point first half, then surpassing that with a 51–point second half en route to their first CCAA victory of the season.

Junior guard Amelia Smith (Los Banos/Merced College) scored a career–high 21 to lead the Otters. Also notching career–high scoring totals were freshmen Jordan Beaumont (San Mateo/Aragon HS) and Gabby Kime (Loomis/Cal Poly SLO), scoring 17 and 14 respectively.

The trio of Smith, Beaumont and Kime scored 52 of the Otters 93 total points.

 

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Mikayla Mabie connected with Gabby Kime for a layup to push the Otters ahead 74-50 with 6:07 to go. 

NOT SINCE 2013… The Otters were able to reach the 90 point mark for the first time since the 2013-14 season today. The last time CSUMB scored 90+ points was in a 98-70 victory over Dixie State to open the 2013-14 season.

FIFTY-FIFTY… For the first time this season, the Otters were able to shoot 50% or better from the field (53.2 percent) and from three (50 percent). The last time CSUMB accomplsihed this feat was Dec. 11, 2015 against, wait for it, Stanislaus State, when it shot 50 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from three.

PRECISE PG PLAY… The Otters set a season high with 23 assists In Saturday's win over Stanislaus State. Nearly half of those assists belonged to point guard Mikayla Mabie, who accounted for a season–high 11. Mabie now ranks second in the CCAA with 69 assists, for an average of 4.1 assists per game. 

TWICE AS NICE… With the Otter women beating Stanislaus State 93–63, and the Otter men winning 80–74, CSUMB swept a CCAA doubleheader for the first time since beating Sonoma State twice on Feb. 5, 2022.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT…  The Otters will hit the road for a –-game trip, starting Thursday Jan. 26 when they take on Sonoma State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as the opener of doubleheader action with the Otter men.
