Imhotet Amen-Ra spent the last four seasons at William Jessup University

August 05, 2022

SEASIDE, Calif. — Freshly–minted Head Coach Sarah Hopkins-Chery added the first piece to her support staff by naming Imhotet Amen-Ra as her top assistant coach for the 2022–23 campaign.

Amen-Ra comes to the Seaside campus from William Jessup University, where he spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach. He helped lead the Warriors to a pair NAIA Division I Tournament appearances and the 2021 Golden State Athletic Conference East Division title.

"We are thrilled to have Coach Tet join our staff," says Hopkins-Chery. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, including 10 years of collegiate coaching, and numerous recruiting ties. His work ethic, passion for the women's game and building genuine relationships make him a great fit for our program."

"I am extremely grateful and honored to be joining Coach Hopkins-Chery and Otter women's basketball," says Amen-Ra. "Having known Sarah over the last six years, I have witnessed her tireless work ethic on and off the court, as well as her unwavering passion for all her athletes."

Prior to his time at William Jessup, Amen-Ra spent four seasons as an assistant at Pacific Union College, where he coached against Hopkins-Chery in the Golden State Athletic Conference. He got his feet wet in collegiate coaching as an assistant at his alma mater, Bethany University, from which he earned a degree in sports management in 2011.

During his career, Amen-Ra helped develop several high level student–athletes, including 10 all–conference players and three NAIA All–Americans. Through his Coach Tet Training program, he has created an implemented training for entry level through the USA Junior National Team participants.

He also founded the Team Tet organization (@teamtethoops) to provide quality coaching to players at the grassroots level.

"For me, having lived right up Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County for seven years, I love being able to be close to what I have always considered my second home," says Amen-Ra. "The CSUMB program has some talented student–athletes and tremendous upside. I can't wait to get to work on the court with everyone and go on this journey together."
