Otters Bow From Regional In Homerfest At APU

Teams combine for eight home runs as Azusa takes regional final, 12–9

AZUSA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay and Azusa Pacific combined for eight home runs in a wild West Regional final that saw host APU hold on for a 12–9 win Saturday at the Cougar Baseball Complex.

With the win, APU (37–17) advances to play Point Loma Nazarene in next week's Super Regional round. CSUMB sees one of the best season's in program history end at 38–17.

Senior first baseman Jason Ajamian (Pasadena/CSUN) ended his collegiate career with a literal bang, parking a pair of home runs and a double to drive in a career high six runs. Ajamian homered in all four games at the regional to finish the season with 12, the No. 5 mark on the Otter single–season list.

Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC) added a pair of hits, including his seventh home run of season. CCAA Player of the Year Brady Miguel (San Benito HS) went 2–for–4 to raise his batting average to .305 in 2022, the third highest in school history.

Ajamian's 2–run double capped a 4–run Otter third that gave CSUMB a 4–3 lead. But APU rallied to score the next eight runs to take control. The Otters rallied with a run in the seventh and four more in the eighth, but could pull no closer as the Cougars held on for the win.
