May 15, 2022

SEASIDE, Calif. — For the fifth time in its last eight seasons, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament. The Otter will travel to Azusa as the No. 3 seed in the West Region for a bracket with No. 2 Azusa Pacific and No. 6 Western Oregon May 19–21 on the Azusa Pacific campus.

CSUMB (36–15) will open against Western Oregon (34–18) Thursday afternoon. The winner advances to play Friday while the loser will play APU in an elimination game Thursday evening.

"We have had a great season and that has earned us the opportunity to compete in the national tournament," says CSUMB Head Coach Walt White. "But we have a lot to prove and we will need to be at our best."

The Otters are 3–8 all–time in NCAA Tournament competition and will be facing Western Oregon in the postseason for the first time. CSUMB is 9–7 all–time against WOU, including winning three of their last four meetings.

The other West Regional bracket will feature No. 1 seed Point Loma Nazarene (43–7) hosting No. 4 seed Cal Poly Pomona (35–17) and No. 5 seed Northwest Nazarene (30–21) in San Diego. The winners of the two brackets will meet in a best-of-three Super Regional May 27–28 on the campus of one of the participants.
