Lauryn Pointer vs. Cal Poly Humboldt

Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kevin Gilmore (@OtterKevin)

Big First Half Not Enough In Loss to Lumberjacks

Lauryn Pointer scores career–high 25 in 70–59 defeat

SEASIDE, Calif. — Lauryn Pointer (Los Angeles/UC Riverside) scored a career–high 25 points, but it wasn't enough to stop visiting Cal Poly Humboldt from taking a 70–59 victory Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

Pointer's 25 points were the most scored by an Otter since Jordana Price scored 29 at Dominican University on Dec. 19, 2018. Pointer's points helped CSUMB to its biggest first half of the season as the Otters took a 37–35 lead into intermission.

But after shooting 50 percent (16–of–32) in the first half, the Otters made just 2–of–17 from the floor coming out of the break, allowing Humboldt to take control. The Lumberjacks opened their biggest lead at 14 points (60–46) two minutes into the fourth quarter.

The Otters dug in their heels late and made a furious comeback, pulling to within four at 60–56 on a Rayshanti McNeal Price (Lancaster HS) put back with 1:50 remaining in regulation. When Humboldt grabbed an offensive rebound and Kaz Parks hit a dagger three on the ensuing possession, however, the comeback ended.

In addition to Pointer, Sarah Shaw (Dana Point/JSerra HS) grabbed a game–high nine rebounds. Emily Perez (Long Beach/St. Anthony HS) passed a season–high five assists.

The Otters will close their brief homestand Saturday when they host Sonoma State for a CCAA doubleheader. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 3 p.m. in The Kelp Bed.
