Fast Start Not enough Again As Pomona Rallies

Early 10-point lead falls away as Broncos take a 76-67 victory

SEASIDE, Calif. — A blazing start proved to be a mirage for the second consecutive outing for Cal State Monterey Bay as visiting Cal Poly Pomona regrouped to earn a 76–67 win Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB raced to a 19–8 lead, but Pomona chipped away until it finally caught the Otters at 27–25 with fewer than 90 seconds remaining in the first half. The Otters trailed by as many as 14 in the second half. They had a chance to cut the lead to one inside the final five minutes before the Broncos stopped the bleeding and held on for the win.

Seattle University transfer Joe Wall (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) recorded his fourth 20–point game in six tries as an Otter, finishing with a game–high 20. Freshman Ameere Britton (Sacramento/Elk Grove HS) passed a game–high six assists while fellow freshman Charles Johnston (Sydney, New South Wales) enjoyed the best game of his young career by scoring nine points with a game–high seven rebounds in 18 minutes off of the bench.

The Otters return to action Saturday when they close their 5–game homestand by hosting No. 15 Cal State San Bernardino. Tip-off will be a t 3 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action.
