San Bernardino Wins Completion Of Suspended Game

Coyotes hold off Otters, 94-86

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State San Bernardino clinched the No. 1 seed in the CCAA Tournament and dealt Cal State Monterey Bay hopes a blow by taking a 94–86 decision Monday afternoon in The Kelp Bed. Monday's action concluded a game that began on Dec. 3 but was halted late in the first half due to a leaky roof.

While San Bernardino (23–3, 18–2 CCAA) is guaranteed the top seed in the CCAA Tournament, CSUMB (10–15, 8–12) will need to win twice this weekend and get some help in order to advance to the 6–team playoff Mar. 2–4 in Turlock.

Monday's game began with San Bernardino holding a 42–36 lead and 1:32 remaining in the first half. The Otters kept the Coyotes in range for the balance of the contest, winning the second half 50–47, but couldn't get over the hump.

Levi Frankland (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia) and Jailen Nelson (Carlsbad HS) led five Otters in double figures with 24 and 20 points respectively. Brandon Knapper and Dontrell Shuler countered with 27 and 20 points for San Bernardino.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Eddie Davis grabbed a rebound off an Otter miss with less than 10 seconds remaining.

PLAYOFF POSSIBILITIES… Monday's loss doesn't knock CSUMB from the CCAA Tournament race, but it does put the Otters in a position when they will need to win both games this weekend to give themselves a chance. CSUMB hosts Cal State East Bay Thursday at 7:30 and Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at 3 p.m.

20–20 VISION… For the second time this season, two Otters scored 20+ points in the same game when Levi Frankland scored 27 and Jailen Nelson added 20 against San Bernardino. The other time it occurred is when Joe Wall scored 24 and Frankland went for 20 in an 80–74 win over Stanislaus State on Jan. 21.

THE FRANKLAND 400… With 24 points against San Bernardino, Levi Frankland became the 17th player in Otter history to score 400 points in a season. He currently is tied with Brandon Ward (2012) at No. 14 with 418 points. The last Otter to score more points in a season was Steve Monreal, who scored 453 points over 30 games in 2009.

HE WOULD BE THE KING… With 24 points versus San Bernardino, Levi Frankland brought his career total to 1,387 points, including his two years at Notre Dame College, an NCAA Division II school in Ohio. That would surpass Alex Fertig (1,370 points) as CSUMB's all–time scoring leader.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Levi Frankland 24; REBOUNDS: Jared Williams 6; ASSISTS: Jailen Nelson 6; BLOCKS: Jailen Nelson/Joe Wall 1; STEALS: Five Otters 1.
