Otter Women's Basketball Notebook vs. Stanislaus State

Note: No fans allowed at Otter home games through the end of January

January 18, 2022

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team begins a weekend of CCAA action when it hosts Stanislaus State Thursday (Jan. 20) for a 5:30 p.m. tip in The Kelp Bed. Please note no fans will be allowed to attend as new campus guidelines mandate no spectators at Otter home athletic events through the end of January.

Fans will be able to watch online on the CCAA Network (CCAANetwork.com/csumb).

CSUMB took the court for the first time in more than a month last week when it hosted Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon. The Otters stayed closer early but Dominguez Hills pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 73–46 decision. Freshman guard Frances Potts (Carson/Warren HS) led the Otters with 13 points. Fellow freshman Emily Perez (Long Beach/St. Anthony HS) added nine points and a team–leading six rebounds.

For its part, at 10–2, Stanislaus is off to its best start since joining the CCAA for the 1998–99 season. The Warriors had never been better than 8–4 through 12 games, but CCAA leading scorer Kyanna Davis (20.1 ppg) has them in contention for the confernce title.

The last time these teams met, Serena Toney recorded career highs with 22 points and eight rebounds for the Otters, but Stanislaus shot 50 percent from beyond the arc to take a 75–56 decision in Fitzpatrick Arena on Jan. 23, 2020. In addition to Toney, then freshman Lizzy Benton came off the bench to score 10 points and block two shots for the Otters. Kyanna Davis led a balanced Stanislaus offense with 12 points.
