CSUMB vs. Cal Poly Pomona Graphic

Otters Finish Trip with Setback At #22 Cal Poly Pomona

Abby Knapp collects 10 kills in 3–set defeat

October 09, 2021

BOX SCORE POMONA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball closed what will—hopefully—be the end of the longest roadtrip in program history on a down note Saturday night as No. 22 ranked Cal Poly Pomona started fast and didn't let off the gas in a 25–13, 25–18, 25–13 win in Kellogg Arena.

Junior Abby Knapp (Atwater HS/Gonzaga) had a strong attacked game for the Otters, finishing with team highs of 10 kills and a .599 attack percentage.

The toll of playing its 12th consecutive match away from home during the improvised 38–day trip showed for CSUMB as Pomona jumped to big early leads in the first two sets. The Otters kept thing close until midway through the third, when an 8–0 Bronco run turned an 8–7 set into a comfortable Cal Poly lead that would not be threatened.

The Otters are scheduled to play their first home match of the season when they return to action Thursday to host San Francisco State in the first of back-to-back matches against the Gators. The teams will face off in San Francisco Saturday night. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 5 p.m.
