Noddin’s Arm, Otter Bats Lead To Series Win At Stanislaus

Otters pull away early to defeat No. 20 Stanislaus State 9–1 in series finale

TURLOCK, Calif. — Another strong start by senior Levi Noddin (San Leandro/Arroyo HS) combined with an early outburst from the Otter offense carried visiting Cal State Monterey Bay to a 9–1 victory and a series win at No. 20 Stanislaus State Sunday afternoon at the Warrior Baseball Field.

Noddin allowed just three hits and one run while striking out six Warriors to improve to 3–1 in his comeback from arm surgery last season. Connor Fabing (San Benito HS) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to earn his second save.

Otter bats gave Noddin and Fabing all the support they would need in the first inning. Kokko Figueiredo's (Fortuna Union HS/College of the Redwoods) 2–run single and an RBI double from Casey Longaker (Petaluma/Casa Grande HS) staked CSUMB to a 3–0 lead.

Figueiredo and Longaker both added RBI in a 4–run Otter second that put CSUMB in control.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Casey Longaker scored on a wild pitch to cap a 4–run Otter second and give CSUMB a 7–0 lead.

GIANT KILLERS, PART I… With three consecutive wins over No. 20 Stanislaus State, the Otters have now won two series this season against nationally–ranked opponents this season. CSUMB swept a series from (then) No. 13 Azusa Pacific Feb. 6–8. It marks the first time in program history that the Otters have taken a series from two nationally–ranked foes in the same season.

GIANT KILLERS, PART II… After dropping the opener, the Otters posted three consecutive wins No. 20 Stanislaus State. CSUMB has posted consecutive wins over nationally–ranked opponents in six of 10 seasons under Head Coach Walt White.

OTTER BATTERS SEEING DOUBLE… Four Otters rapped two hits apiece as part of CSUMB's 12–hit attack in Sunday's 9–1 win at Stanislaus State: Chase Lindemann (2x5), Casey Longaker (2x4), Brady Miguel (2x6) and Chris Rubottom (2x4). Both of Miguel's hits were doubles.

SAVING THE DAY… The Otter bullpen has not one but two closers who rank amongst the top 5 firemen in program history. Connor Fabing picked up his 13th career save with three shutout innings Sunday at Stanislaus State. Fabing ranks No. 2 all–time at CSUMB with 13 saves. Parker Fokken saved both ends of Saturday twinbill sweep at Stanislaus, giving him seven career saves. Fokken is No. 5 on the Otter career saves list.

THE LAST WORD… "Winning a series on the road in the CCAA is hard to do, let alone against a very good Stanislaus State team. We didn't play very well early in the series, but we found the resolve to comeback yesterday to post a couple wins. Today was all about Levi Noddin and our early offensive output. I'm proud of our team's effort this weekend, but now we have to move on to next weekend's challenge against East Bay. " – CSUMB Head Coach Walt White

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters head to Hayward to open their Battle of the Bays series with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Cal State East Bay on Friday (Mar. 6).
