Stanislaus Rallies In Final Minute To Take 57–56 Decision

Warriors make two free throws with 5.7 seconds remaining to complete comeback

TURLOCK, Calif. — For the second consecutive meeting between the teams, Stanislaus State rallied in the closing moments, this time making two free throws with 5.7 seconds remaining to pull out a 57–56 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday night in Fitzpatrick Arena.

CSUMB missed two free throws and a layup in the final 74 seconds to leave the door open for the Warriors. They also failed to inbound the ball successfully with seven seconds to play, leading to the foul that allowed Vida Faniel to make the winning free throws.

Despite shooting season lows of 33 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from long range, the Otters led for almost all of the final 25 minutes. But the cold shooting never allowed them to pull away and they couldn't build a cushion bigger than 10 points.

Sophomore forward Andrew Ferguson (Perth, Western Australia/Univ. of San Diego) continued the hot start to his Otter career with his third double–double in the last four games. He led both teams with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Joseph Bosetti (Red Bluff HS) came off the bench to score 12 points and grab six boards. Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) scored 10 points with three assists and three steals.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Jahvon Johnson's running 3–pointer didn't fall as time expired.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY… The Otters combined for 10 steals Thursday at Stanislaus, their most of the season. They had eight steals in a win over Academy of Art on Nov. 16.

THE THIEF OF CLOVIS… With three more steals Thursday at Stanislaus, Jahvon Johnson passed Derrick Anderson and Ryan Nitz to move into the No. 8 spot on the Otter career steals list with 74. He needs six more to pass Steve Monreal for seventh.

ANOTHER DOUBLE–DOUBLE FOR THE BIG GUY… Andrew Ferguson posted his third double–double and the team's third double–double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds Thursday at Stanislaus. If he had played enough games to qualify, he would rank fourth in the CCAA in scoring (17.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg).

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Andrew Ferguson 16; REBOUNDS: Andrew Ferguson 10; ASSISTS: Jahvon Johnson 3; BLOCKS: Andrew Ferguson 2; STEALS: Jahvon Johnson 3.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will conclude their longest (geographically) CCAA road trip of the season Saturday with a doubleheader Saturday at Humboldt State. The men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of men's/women's doubleheader action.
