Otters sweep Seattle Pacific but fall to No. 3 Western Washington

POMONA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball earned a well deserved split against at pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference foes to open play at the West Region Showcase Thursday in Kellogg Arena.

The Otters bounced back strong in the evening, earning their first sweep of 2019 with a 27–25, 25–12, 25–23 win over Seattle Pacific.

The left side of the Otter attack figured prominently Thursday, with outside hitters Jenna Tobin (Modesto/Gregori HS) and Kaylie Honberger (Rocklin/Whitney HS) 37 kills. Tobin led the way with 10 versus WWU while Honberger put down 12 against Seattle Pacific.

Sophomore Sophia Torres (Temecula/Chaparral HS) averaged 10 assists per set for the day, including 35 helpers in the win over SPU. Torres added three aces and 17 digs to enhance her stat line.

Junior middle blocker Hannah Haveman (Parker, Colo./Legend HS) totaled six blocks in the two matches and hit .545 with six kills and no errors against SPU.

THE WESTERN WASHINGTON MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Gabby Gunterman served the final two points to break at 23–23 tie in the third set.
