Parker Double–Double Not Enough As Short–Handed Otters Fall Late

Camille Parker scores 15 points, adds 10 boards in 72–60 loss to Sonoma

SEASIDE, Calif. — With three starters out and just eight players in action, Cal State Monterey Bay used a double–double from sophomore Camille Parker (Alta Loma HS) to throw a scare into visiting Sonoma State before fading late in a 72–60 setback in The Kelp Bed.

The Otters led for more than 26 minutes Thursday night as Parker just missed her career highs with 15 points and 10 rebounds. CSUMB led by as many as 11 points and still carried a 49–45 lead through three quarters.

That's when the short–handed Otters hit the wall. The Seawolves completed a 17–1 run to open a 60–50 lead four minutes into the fourth quarter. The Otters kept the deficit under 10 points until the final seconds, but never got within two possessions of the lead again.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Sophie Northern made a short jumper with 19 seconds to play to give Sonoma a 70–60 lead.

TREBLE DOUBLE–DOUBLE… Camille Parker's 15–point, 10–rebound double–double was her third of the season (and of her career). It was the fifth twin killing by an Otter this season. Yolanda Ealy owns the other two.

QUADRUPLE THREAT… Not only did Camille Parker lead the Otters in scoring and rebounding Thursday night versus Sonoma State, she also led the Otters with three assists and a career–high five steals.

THICK AS THIEVES… The Otter defense has been in top form over the past several weeks. CSUMB collected 10 steals Thursday against Sonoma State, just one off its season high. The Otters have averaged 10.3 steals per game over their last four games.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Camille Parker 15; REBOUNDS: Camille Parker 10; ASSISTS: Camille Parker 5; BLOCKS: Jenna Viss 2; STEALS: Camille Parker 5.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will conclude the home portion of the 2018–19 schedule when they host San Francisco State Saturday (Feb. 16) as part of a CCAA doubleheader. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 3 p.m.
