Otter Shooting Goes Cold In 75–65 Loss At Holy Names

Newcomer Damian Wilson leads the offense with 20 points

OAKLAND, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball suffered through its coldest shooting night of the young season, resulting in a 75–65 loss at Holy Names University Tuesday night in Tobin Gym.

CSUMB (3–2 overall) used an early 16–0 run to take its biggest lead of the night at 18–10 midway through the first half. But Holy Names retook the lead five minutes later at 27–25 and CSUMB played catch–up for the rest of the night.

The game stayed close throughout the second half until a quick 6–0 spurt gave the Hawks a 71–60 lead with just over a minute to play.

Junior Damian Wilson (Inglewood/Tat HS) led the Otters with 20 points. He was the only Otter to score in double figures.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Jewels Sanders took the rebound of an Otter miss coast–to–coast to give Holy Names a 74-63 lead with 46 seconds to play.

20–20–20 VISION… Damian Wilson became the third different Otter to score 20 points in the first five games this season. It's the first time three Otters have turned that trick since Derrick Anderson, Kevin Loustale and Brandon Ward all reached that mark at the start of the 2011–12 season.

FREE THROWS PROVE COSTLY INDEED… Holy Names, which came into the game shooting 72 percent from the free–throw line Tuesday night, making 23–of–24 (.958) to seal the Hawk victory.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT…POINTS: Damian Wilson 20; REBOUNDS: Joseph Bosetti 8; ASSISTS: Four Otters 1; BLOCKS: Joseph Bosetti/Ben Carter 1; STEALS: Dwight Murray 2.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters get an early start to CCAA play when they host Cal Poly Pomona for a doubleheader Saturday (Nov. 23). The women will tip–off at 1 p.m. and the men will tip–off at 3 p.m.
