Otter Can’t Hang On Late As Pomona Rallies For 61–56 Win

Camille Parker Scores 14 but Broncos rally in final two minutes to spoil upset bid

POMONA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay played its best half of the season, against a team with CCAA title aspirations no less, but couldn't hang on the waning moments as Cal Poly Pomona rallied for a 61–55 win Saturday night in Kellogg Arena.

Camille Parker (Alta Loma HS) led CSUMB with 14 points and six rebounds. Jordana Price (Seattle/Inglemoor HS) added 11 points. Freshman Chyna Dews (Venice HS) chipped in nine points and a game–high five assists.

Behind a defense that forced 17 first–half turnovers, CSUMB led by 10 points at the end of the first quarter (18–8) and by 14 at halftime (33–19).But the Broncos settled down after intermission, committing just four turnovers over the final 20 minutes to spark the comeback.

The Broncos didn't take their first lead until six minutes remained in regulation. The Otters regained the upper hand twice in the final five minutes, the last time at 53–52 on Price jumper with 2:03 remaining.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Lauryn Catching made a free throw with four seconds left to put Pomona up 60–55.

IT'S NOT OVER 'TIL IT'S OVER… Jordana Price's jumper with 2:03 remaining gave the Otters their latest lead in a game since they beat Cal Poly Pomona, 50–49, on Jan. 27, 2018.

ONE HECKUVA HALF… CSUMB's 14–point halftime (33–19) lead was it's biggest lead at intermission since leading San Francisco State 41–15 (26 points) on Jan. 20, 2018.

FIELDS KEEPS STEAL STREAK ALIVE… Junior Siana Fields claimed one steal Saturday night to run her streak of games with a steal to nine games. She is averaging 1.9 steals per game over that streak.
