Ealy Records Double–Double, But Slow Start Sinks Otters

Yolanda Ealy scores 10, grabs 12 boards in 58–41 loss at San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Junior forward Yolanda Ealy (Long Beach Poly/L.A. Valley College) recorded her first double–double, but it wasn't enough to help Cal State Monterey Bay overcome a glacially cold start in a 58–41 loss to Cal State San Bernardino Thursday night in Coussoulis Arena.

Ealy scored 10 points and pulled down a season–high 12 rebounds for her double dip. But the Otters opened the game shooting 1–for–20 from the floor, allowing San Bernardino to building a 19–2 lead after the first quarter. The Otters played the Coyotes dead even from that point—the teams tied 39–39 over the final three periods—but CSUMB could get no closer than 13 points over the last half hour.

Jordana Price (Seattle/Inglemoor HS) led the Otters with 14 points. Freshman Chyna Dews (Venice HS) passed a game–high six assists.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Courtney Coleman made the first of two free throws to give San Bernardino a 54–40 lead with 1:36 remaining.

DOUBLE–DOUBLE CLUB… With 10 points and a season–high 12 rebounds, Yolanda Ealy became the second Otter to join the double–double club in 2018–19. Sophomore Camille Parker got there first with 16 points and 12 rebounds against Cal State East Bay on Dec. 30.

CHYNA LENDS A HAND… Freshman guard Chyna Dews' six assists were not only a personal best, they were the most by an Otter this season.

ON THE REBOUND, PART I… CSUMB out–rebounded San Bernardino 48–44 Thursday night. The 48 rebounds were the most by the Otters this season and their most since pulling down 49 against San Francisco State on Dec. 17, 2017.

ON THE REBOUND, PART II… The Otter rebounding edge came in large part thanks to a season–high 21 offensive rebounds. It was the most offensive rebounds by the Otters since they grabbed 23 against Cal State East Bay on Dec. 2, 2017.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jordana Price 14; REBOUNDS: Yolanda Ealy 12; ASSISTS: Chyna Dews 6; BLOCKS: Yolanda Ealy 1; STEALS: Siana Fields 3.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their SoCal sojourn with a CCAA doubleheader at Cal Poly Pomona Saturday (Jan. 12). The women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
