LOS ANGELES — A fast start by the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team wasn't enough Friday night as No. 17 Cal State L.A. rallied for a 24–26, 25–18, 25–14, 25–22 win in L.A.
CSUMB saved a set point to take the opener and led as late as 18–17 in the finale. But the Otters couldn't overcome hitting a season–low .039 for the match. The Otters matched their season–low with 28 kills.
Individually,
Ashlynne Armstrong (Norco HS) posted 20 digs and
Chandler McKean (Visalia/Redwood HS) led a strong net presence with five blocks.
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) led the offense with nine kills.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Consecutive kills by Karla Santos snuffed the last Otter rally and gave L.A. a 25–22 win in the fourth set.
ON THE BLOCKS… CSUMB totaled 10 team blocks Friday night, the second time in 2018 it has reached double figures. The Otters put down a season–high 12 in a sweep of Humboldt State on Sept. 6.
BRENNAN BLOCKS… With four total blocks Friday night,
Samantha Brennan slipped past Kerri Sudarsana (2006–09) and into 16th place on the Otter career blocks list with 132.

Anela Visesio also added to the blocking credentials Friday night. McKean's five blocks give her 185 for her career, further cementing her into sixth place, while Visesio added three blocks of her own (126 total) and trails Kerri Sudarsana by four for the No. 17 spot.

THE LAST WORD… "I loved our effort tonight. We played with the effort that has been missing our last few matches. We just made too many errors to compete with a dynamic Cal state L.A. team. I was so impressed with the response from
Ashlynne Armstrong and her grit in the back row. We are going to need more of that as we keep getting better as a team." —
CSUMB Head Coach Moe Melhart
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their brief 2–match SoCal sojourn with a match at Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday at 7 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
