Game Slips Away Late In 62–58 Loss To Dominguez Hills

Courtney Keaton just misses school rebounding record in 11–point, 17–rebound double–double

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team rallied from an early 10–point deficit then couldn't protect a 12–point lead of its own in the second half as visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills came back late to earn a 62–58 win Friday night in The Kelp Bed.

Senior Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS) had a monster day, just missing the school rebounding record while posting an 11–point, 17–rebound double–double. Brianna Tucker (Clovis North HS) led CSUMB with 16 points.
The Otters played one of their strongest second quarters of the season, out–scoring the Toros 18–7 in the period to take a 31–23 lead into the lockerroom. CSUMB led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter and still led by 10, 44–34, inside the final minute of the period.

But Dominguez Hills slowly chipped away until it finally pulled ahead at 53–51 on a Zhane Carter 3–pointer with 3:34 remaining. The Otters turned the ball over on their next three possessions and didn't make another basket until an Aubri Smith (Buena HS/Ventura College) jumper with 20 seconds to play, allowing the Toros to escape.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Brianna Tucker's 3–point attempt didn't find the mark on CSUMB's final possession in the final five seconds.

SO CLOSE, PART I… While Courtney Keaton's 17 rebounds Friday night were a career high, she just missed the Otter single game record of 18 rebounds set three times previously. McKenna Hill is the only Otter to accomplish that feat at the NCAA level, pulling down 18 boards against Holy Names University on Nov. 20, 2016.

SO CLOSE, PART II… Brianna Tucker just missed her personal scoring best when she finished with 16 points Friday night. She set her career high of 17 points at Sonoma State on Dec. 10, 2016

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Brianna Tucker 16; REBOUNDS: Courtney Keaton 17; ASSISTS: Christine Golfo/Camille Parker/Aubri Smith 2; BLOCKS: Jessie Evans 3; STEALS: Jessie Evans/Courtney Keaton/Aubri Smith 3.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will play their final home game of the season Saturday night against Cal State L.A. as part of a CCAA doubleheader. The women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
