Big Third Quarter Propels L.A. Past Otters On Senior Night, 68–57

Courntey Keaton posts 15–point, 10–rebound double–double; Aubri Smith has 14 points and five assists

SEASIDE, Calif. — Visiting Cal State L.A. used a big third quarter rally to earn a come–from–behind 68–57 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday on Senior Night in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB got strong games from seniors Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Aubri Smith (Buena HS/Ventura College), who helped the Otters lead until midway through the third period. L.A. nearly caught the Otters twice before Rebeccah DiRegolo's layup gave the Golden Eagles a 37–35 lead they wouldn't relinquish late in the third quarter.

The Otters pulled to within one twice in the fourth quarter, and it was still a 3–point game at 60–57 with 2:49 remaining. But they went 0–for–6 from the field over their final six possessions, allowing L.A. to ease away to the 11–point win

Keaton recorded her second consecutive double–double with 15 points and a game–high 10 rebounds. Smith added 14 points, five assists and three steals.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Rikke Fabricius made a pair of free throws to give L.A. a 66–57 lead with 26 seconds remaining.

ANOTHER DOUBLE–DOUBLE… Courtney Keaton posted her second consecutive double–double and her eighth double–double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds Saturday night versus Cal State L.A. They are the most double–doubles by an Otter since Brittani Jefferson posted eight during the 2012–13 season. Johanna Mahoney set the CSUMB record with 11 double–doubles during the 2003–04 season.

ON THE REBOUND… By leading the team with 10 boards Saturday night, Courtney Keaton has now led CSUMB in rebounding in 11 consecutive games and in 22 of 25 games overall in 2017–18.

TWICE IN THE TOP 10… Aubri Smith passed five assists Saturday versus Cal State L.A. to tie current Gonzaga University Head Coach Lisa Mispley for No. 6 on the Otter career list with 168 helpers. With three steals in the game, she jumped to No. 10 on that career list with 90.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Courtney Keaton 15; REBOUNDS: Courtney Keaton 10; ASSISTS: Aubri Smith 5; BLOCKS: Courtney Keaton/Alexa Sperling 1; STEALS: Courtney Keaton/Aubri Smith 3.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will hit the road for their final two games of the 2017–18 season. The trip begins with a men's/women's doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 17) at Cal State East Bay. The women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
