Big Game By Price Highlights Season–Opening 70–54 Setback

Jordana Price scores career–high 25 points Friday against Central Washington

NAMPA, Id. — Cal State Monterey Bay's Jordana Price (Seattle/Inglemoor HS) kicked off her senior season in style with a career–high 25 points Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for Otter fans, it wasn't enough for an opening–day win as Central Washington took a 70–54 decision in the Johnson Sports Center on the campus of Northwest Nazarene.

The Otters took most of the first quarter to find their footing in their first game under new Head Coach CJ Pace. The Wildcats raced to a 22–6 lead in the first eight minutes.

From that point forward, however, the Otters settled in and played Central to 48–48 tie over the final 32 minutes.

In addition to Price, L.A. Valley College transfer Yolanda Ealy (Long Beach Poly HS) scored 14 points on 7–of–10 shooting from the floor. Price and freshman guard Chyna Dews (Los Angeles/Venice HS) shared team–high honors with five rebounds each. Dews and junior Siana Fields (Clemson/Long Beach Poly HS) each passed three assists.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Using the statistical formula popularized by Bill James, the game was statistically over when Bri Phiakhamngon knocked down a free throw with 3:25 remaining to give Central Washington a 68–49 lead.

SIZZLING START… The 25 points scored by Jordana Price match the third most ever scored by an Otter in a season opener. Dana Andrews set the Otter record with 28 in a 91–79 loss at Hope International University on Nov. 16, 2007.

TAKE THEM, THEY'RE FREE… Led by an 11–of–12 effort from Jordana Price, the Otters finished 16–of–18 from the charity stripe Friday versus Central Washington. The .889 free–throw percentage marked CSUMB's best effort from the line since making 17–of–18 (.944) in a 64–60 win at Cal State L.A. on Feb. 14, 2015.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jordana Price 25; REBOUNDS: Chyna Dews/Jordana Price 5; ASSISTS: Chyna Dews/Siana Fields 3; BLOCKS: Jordana Price 1; STEALS: Chyna Dews/Jordana Price 1.

THE LAST WORD… "This was a good measuring stick for this to be our first game we got to play together without any scrimmages. We played tough against great size and we got to see some really solid pieces. It was nice to see Jordana Price come out aggressive and be confident as well as our transfer forward Yolanda Ealy. We will continue to grow as a team. I am excited to see the growth." – CSUMB Head Coach CJ Pace

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their 2–game trip–game to potato country by playing Northwest Nazarene Saturday in Nampa. Tipoff is schedule for 5 p.m. MST (4 p.m. Pacific).
