Otters Fall At Sonoma State Despite Big Second Half

Yolanda Ealy leads MB with 12 points off the bench

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — A big second half by visiting Cal State Monterey Bay couldn't overcome a strong start by Sonoma State as the Seawolves hung on for a 57–43 win Saturday night in The Wolves Den.

Yolanda Ealy (Long Beach Poly/L.A. Valley College) came off the bench to lead the Otters with 12 points. Sophomore Camille Parker (Alta Loma HS) pulled down a team–high eight rebounds.

CSUMB was ice cold in the first half, shooting just 3–for–25, which helped Sonoma build a 37–15 lead by halftime. The Otters warmed up after the break, out–scoring the Seawolves 12–10 in the third quarter and 28–20 in the half to bite into the deficit.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Ugochi Anudokem made a pair of free–throw shots to make the Sonoma State lead 53–29 with 5:57 remaining.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB… Yolanda Ealy became the fourth player in five games this season to lead the Otters in scoring when she came off the bench to score 12 points Saturday at Sonoma State.

PRICE STREAK ENDS… Jordan Price saw her streak of scoring in double figures end at four games after being held to a season–low seven points Saturday night.

ON THE REBOUND… With eight boards Saturday night, Camille Parker led a balanced Otter rebounding effort that pulled down a team season–high 37 boards. Freshmen Chyna Dews and Ashley Reynoso each added personal season highs of seven rebounds apiece.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Yolanda Ealy 12; REBOUNDS: Camille Parker 8; ASSISTS: Chyna Dews 3; BLOCKS: Yolanda Ealy/Kim McKinney/Camille Parker/Jenna Viss 1; STEALS: Chyna Dews/Camille Parker/Jordana Price 2.

THE LAST WORD… "Yet another tough one. This weekend gave us a lot lessons and film to review. We are putting solid second half games together but we have to find a way to be aggressive offensively from the jump ball. This team has continued to make me proud of their fight regardless of the score. We will continue to evaluate and make adjustments to see better results." – CSUMB Head Coach CJ Pace

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters return home to host UC San Diego in a CCAA doubleheader Thursday, Nov. 29 in The Kelp Bed. Women's tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m. and men's tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
